Obituary: "Another S'side Soldier Killed; Alan R. Read
The sad news was received by Mrs. Maud Read of Read's Corner, near Summerside, informing her of the death in action of her son, Alan Rattenbury Read.
The telegram read: "The Minister of Defence regrets to inform you that Rifleman Alan Rattenbury Read has been officially reported killed in action on the 27th of October. If any further information becomes available it will be forwarded as soon as received."
Fusilier Read was 20 years of age. He enlisted in December last and left for overseas in the spring.
He is survived by his mother and four brothers: David in Charlottetown, Benjamin, Morton and Ernest all at home. Prior to enlisting he was employed with the P.E.I. Bag Company in Summerside.2,1  World War II Honour Roll, Alan R. Read (1923-1944).
