| Death | She died on 26 June 1898 in Boston, Massachusetts, USAG.
Obituary: "Death in its mildest form is attended with sorrow, and when the circumstances surrounding it are sad, the sorrow is intensified. This time it is the family of Mr. Alex Cousins, Burlington, that are full of grief. On June 29th, all that was mortal of Katherine Jane Cousins was committed to the earth, mingled with the tears and sobs of many friends. For the last fifteen years Miss Cousins resided in Boston, coming to the Island almost every summer to visit her family and friends. This summer all looked forward with pleasure to the time when they could once more see her pleasing countenance and hear her cheering words. But the decrees of Providence were otherwise. Far from home and friends, a stranger in a strange land, she bade adieu to earth and crossed to that distant shore whence no one e'er returns. All earthly aid availed not to save her, for her course on earth was at an end. In the presence of kind friends she breathed her last, confident in the hope of a glorious resurrection.
Her remains were brought to the Island, accompanied by several friends. At Kensington a large number assembled to receive the remains and convey them to the home of her stricken family. The funeral was one of the largest seen in Burlington for some time. The last sad rites were performed by Rev. Chas. MacKay, Long River, who delivered an unusually eloquent and able discourse fitting to the occasion. Miss Cousins' death removes from us one who was "the admired of every circle, and the idol of her own." To know her was to love her. Her friends were countless, her enemies none. She carried sunshine wherever she went. Her parents, brothers and sisters have the sympathy of all who know them."2,1
