The account below is an obituary by Shirley Donnelly a man newspaper reporter. 'Many related memories flood my soul as I set about preparing to conduct the funeral of Mrs. Earl Davis, (Feb. 22, 1930-July 17, 1979), nee Miss Ruth Delores DeLung, of over Dothan way. 'Everyone called her Delores. By appointment she and Earl Davis came to my house on the evening of December 17, 1940, with marriage license in hand to have me read the marriage vows for them to assent to. This they did and went in their way rejoicing. 'Delores was born on George Washington's birthday, Feb. 22. Her parents were John DeLung (1910-Aug. 14, 1974) and the late Mrs. Arizona Lafferty DeLung. If I am not mistaken, Ruth Delores was the first born child.She was one good woman, a devoted wife and a model mother, belonging to the Dothan Community Church. 'It was always the desire of the heart of Delores Davis to have a pretty kitchen in her home. As is all too often the case, such desires are late in being gratified. However, her husband, Earl Davis saw to it that Delores got her pretty kitchen. However, she did not get the kitchen intime to enjoy it. No sooner was the kitchen completed than she passed away. 'In the apparent enjoyment of good health, Delores Davis went to bed the evening of July 16. In a few hours, Delores was dead, dying of a heart attack at 12:30 a.m. Tuesday, July 17. 'While a sudden death is shocking to one's loved one, how can you say it is not a wonderful way to die? No longer suffering, no lingering illness, no long drawn out and excruciating pain! When my time comes it is fondly hoped and fervently prayed that, when that night comes and I wrap the drapery of my coach about me and lie down to pleasant dreams, I will be blessed by heaven to wake up dead! Like Enoch of the Bible note,Delores was not, for God took her.'.¹
