Obituary:"Islander's Death in Vancouver, B.C.

Mrs. Leigh Lowther, Cape Traverse, last Wednesday received a telegram conveying the sad news of the sudden death in Vancouver, B.C. of her brother, Mr. Singleton Wyndham Muncey. No details were received. Deceased was born 66 years ago at Cape Traverse, a son of the [late] Townsend and Mrs. (Muttart) Muncey.

He was a proficient telegraph operator, and upon the outbreak of the South African war was one of the first to enlist. In that campaign he received a gunshot wound in the shoulder, as the result of which he spent ten months in hospital in England. bSome time after being invalided home he resumed his work as a telegrapher, taking a position as telegraph agent and station master at Raeburn, Manitoba, being later transferred to Lloydminster, Sask., and was the first operator in that new town. He was also a partner in the firm of Muncey, Yeo, operating a general merchandise store until he resigned from the railway and entered the real estate business in Prince Albert, finally settling in Vancouver where he passed away.

Mr. Muncey was twice married; his first wife was Miss Ettie Schurman, daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Jesse Schurman, Central Bedeque, to whom one daughter, Doris Priscilla (Mrs. Reginald Haslam of Springfield), was born. His second wife, Miss Alma Aylward of Lloydminster, survives, also his daughter, Mrs. Haslam, and one son, Aylward, in Vancouver. Mrs. (Dr.) Tanton of Summerside, and Mrs. Leigh Lowther, Cape Traverse, are sisters.". [Summerside Journal, 29 October 1945, page 14, col. 4]

Obituary: Bedeque Notes: A telegram was received by Mrs. Lea Lowther, Carleton, telling of the death of her brother, Mr. Singleton Muncey, in Vancouver on Oct. 23rd in his 65th year. He was born in Carleton, P.E.I. and was the son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Muncey.

He learned telegraphy with his father and when a young man went to the South Africa Boer War and came home wounded. Later he went out to the Canadian West and was station agent at Raeburn, Manitoba. In 1904 he married Miss Etta Schurman, daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Jesse Schurman, Central Bedeque. She died a few years later. His second wife was Miss Alma Aylward, Ontario. Mr. Muncey was a veteran of World War I and on his return from overseas took up his residence in Vancouver, B.C.

He leaves a sorrowing widow, one daughter, Doris, Mrs. Reginald Haslam, Springfield; one son, Aylward, of Vancouver; two little granddaughters; and two sisters: Mrs. Lea Lowther and Mrs. (Dr.) Tanton of Summerside. [Summerside Journal, 29 October 1945, page 4, col. 2.2
