| Note | Havelock George Coy was a hardware merchant, born at Upper Gagetown, New Brunswick, Canada, 30, April, 1866, the only son of Samuel and Ruth Amelia (Estey) Coy, the only grandson of Reverend Benjamin and Sarah (Cottle) Coy, and great-grandson of Edward, Sr. and Anne 'Amy' (Titus) Coy. Edward Coy, Sr. and his family removed from Pomfret, Connecticut to New Brunswick and were the first English-speaking people to settle on the Saint John River. Havelock George Coy was educated in public schools, and was a member of the Fredericton Baptist Church in Fredericton, York County, New Brunswick and in 1887 migrated to Anaconda, Deer Lodge County, Montana, where he later engaged in the teaming business. He operated a stone quarry in Sheep Gulch, furnishing the stone for several of Anaconda’s first permanent buildings, among them, the Montana Hotel and the Protestant Episcopal Church. During 1898-1903, with Henry P. Leck as a partner under the firm name of Leck and Coy, he was in the building contract business, the firm constructed the Orphan’s Home at Twin Bridges, Madison County, Montana. the Normal College, the Court House at Dillon, Beaverhead County,Montana and a hotel at Meetese, Park County, Wyoming. In 1903 they purchased and combined two Anaconda stores and developed a large harness, implement, hardware and vehicular business. In 1904, George purchased his partners interest and was the sole owner until 1926 when he sold the business and thereafter devoted his time to farming in the Deer Lodge Valley. In 1912 he was appointed County Commissioner of Deer Lodge County to fill out an un-expired term. In politics, he was a Republican and a Baptist in his religious affiliation, serving as Trustee, Deacon and Sunday School Superintendent. He was a member of the Good Templars (past chief) and the Rotary Club (president) and was a delegate from Anaconda to the International Convention of Rotary Clubs, at Toronto, Canada, in 1924. He was Vice President of the Anaconda National Bank. Havelock was a man of forceful character, exceptional business ability, a delightful conversationalist and a gifted public speaker, possessing a keen sense of humor. He was married 07, December, 1893, to Annie Mae Edmonds, the daughter of James Chapman Edmonds, of Fredericton, York County, New Brunswick, Canada, and had they had two children, Anne Mae, and Havelock Edmond. Havelock George Coy died in December 25, 1926 at the Murray Hospital in Butte, Siver Bow County, Montana after an operation.
