- Battle of Falkirk, one of the major battles in the first war of Scottish independance. King Edward I led the English army to defeat the Scots led by William Wallace. The English army consisted of 15,000 men to 6,000 Scots. About 2,000 were killed on each side. Shortly after the battle Wallace resigned as Guardian of Scotland.
