- BIOGRAPHY James Weed Cory, enlisted in 'I' Company, 33rd regt., New York, under Captain Root. Served until May 4, 1863, when he was wounded and made prisoner at Chancellorsville, while attempting to capture a rebel flag from a Florida regiment. At the same time he lost his left arm, it being amputated in the field by an Army surgeon. He was finally exchanged and discharged, having served his full time and participated in sixteen battles and sieges. James served as an attorney in the Treasury Department.
