- Probably came from the southwest of England, from Devon or Dorset, wherethe name is found. At Newport as early as 1653. Juryman, 29 Aug 1653. Freeman of Newport in 1655. Among original grantees of Conanicut Island (Jamestown) 1656. On a Jury again June 1658. Children: Joseph, James, Job & probably several daughters. Kingswear is about4 miles from Churston Ferrers. He named his father Edward CARDY, motherElizabeth CARDY, brother John CARDY, sister Margery CARDY, kinsman JohnCARDY, sister Joane CARDY. His wife Ann was his executrix when the willwas proved in July 1630. (Prerogative Court of Canterbury Wills, 1630, 68Scrope, FHL microfilm 92122) Having died 1629/1630, he CANNOT be identical to Richard CARD of RhodeIsland.
