- William Tubbs: The earliest record of this family is of William Tubbs, who first appeared in Plymouth, Mass., in 1635, and is believed to have come to America from Sutton, Isle of Ely, Cambridge, England. He was one of the volunteers in the expedition against the Pequot Indians in June,1637; was admitted freeman of Plymouth Colony, January 2, 1637-1638; was granted lands in Duxbury at different times; was one of the proprietors of Bridgewater; was surveyor of highways at Duxbuy 1678-1685; and served as a member of Captain Miles Standish's military company. William divorced Mercy on July 9 1668 apparently for reasons of adultery. Mercy moved to Rhode Island with her lover.
