Biographical Note |
- They had at least 1 son by this marriage. William was born in England in 1610, and came to Virginia in 1635 on the Speedwell. The Speedwell was one of two ships scheduled for departure on 16 Sept 1620 from Plymouth, England to found Plymouth plantation and Plymouth colony in present-day Massachusetts. The Mayflower was one and the Speedwell was the other, however, the Speedwell was deemed unseaworthy, so 102 people were crowded into the 90 foot Mayflower, which was bound for Virginia. The Speedwell finally sailed and and landed in Virginia in 1635. William appeared in Massachusetts Bay Colony in 1653. He died at Deerfield, Frankling County, Massachusetts in 1688. He married Mary Burt; she died in 1689 at Deerfield. The family seat of the Brooks family is Whitchurch, Hampshire, England. This information was obtained from Mrs. Beverly Brooks, wife of BeverlyBrooks' son of Duncan Dunbar Brooks, son of Elijah Brooks, son of Abner, Jr. and Hannah. These notes were loaned to Florence C. Estabrooks by Dr. Esther Clark Wright.
