Death	He died on 5 February 1945 in Vielslam, BelgiumG. the casualty report recorded that Preston was the pilot of a Canadian Air Force Lancaster on its way to Bonn, Germany, when it collided in clouds with another Canadian Lancaster, about 5 miles south of Vielslam. This was Preston's 50th trip. On a previous flight he was shot down over water; he and his crew spent 6 hours in a dinghy before being rescued.
