Obituary: "Passed peacefully away at St. Eleanors on the morning of April 12th, Caroline E., wife of William Pickering, aged 61 years. Deceased had been in failing health for some time but not until the last few weeks did the bereaved family give up all hope of her recovery. Everything that medical aid and kind hands could do was done to alleviate her pain and restore her to health, but He who knows best willed otherwise. She bore her sickness uncomplainingly and patiently, thinking more of others than herself. Deceased was noted for her kind, sociable and cheerful disposition, thus winning for herself numerous friends, and when the last breath of life had ceased there came to an end a life spent for her family.

She leaves a sorrowing husband, four daughters, Mrs. E. Chute, Fall River, Mass.; Mrs. A. J. Linkletter, Summerside; Mrs. W. Snowey, New Village; and Miss Lucy at home; and three sons, George T. of St. Eleanors; Hollis H. of Dawson City, and Leonard at home; one brother, Mr. William Tanton of Summerside, the only one remaining of a large family of boys and girls. Deceased was born at St. Eleanors in 1842, and was a daughter of the late George Tanton of that place. Services were conducted at the house by Rev. Neil McLaughlin, assisted by Rev. W. H. Smith. The following were the pallbearers: Messrs. Wm. Schurman, Alex Allan, Donald McCallum, W. H. Cannon, Albert Philips and James Harris."2,5
