Ramsey, 67, died Oct. 27 at his residence on ShawSt. He was born in Smyrna Mills, Dec. 26, 1904, the son of Weldon andArdra (Estabrooks) Ramsey. He attended Fairfield schools and graduated from Lawrence High School.On March 29, 1930, he married Bertha Pinkham and they moved fromWaterville to Newport in 1942. He had been employed by the AmericanExpress Co. in Waterville and Newport for many years, retiring in 1949.At the time of his death he was employed as a dispatcher for the town ofNewport. Mr. Ramsey was past secretary of Meridian Splendor Lodge, amember of the St. Omar Commandery, Waterville, and was an honorary memberof the Newport Fire Department. He attended the High Street Congregational Church. He is survived by hiswife of Newport; one son, Paul Ramsey of Hanover; two daughters, Mrs.Joan Small of Carmel and Mrs. David (Phyllis) Marley of Portland, andseven grandchildren. Funeral services will be held Sunday at 2 p.m. at the High StreetCongregational Church. Masonic services will be held Saturday at 7:30p.m. at the Crosby-Neal Funeral Home, Newport, where friends may callSaturday afternoon and evening. Burial will be in Riverside Cemetery.1

Bates, 67, died Tuesday at Caribou after a short illness. He was in Moro, October 28, 1896, son of Charles and Persia (Moody) Bates. He served with the U.S. Navy during World War I and World War II, as well as the Korean conflict. He was a member of the Katahdin Lodge of Masons; St. Aldemar Commandery; Anah Temple Shine; and the Fidelity Chapter, Order of the Eastern Star. He is survived by his widow, Mrs. Helen (Estabrook) Bates of Houlton; four brothers, Everard of Moro, Freeman and Adrian, both of Linneus, Philip of Niles, Michigan; one sister, Mrs. Helen Jane Mason, Riverside,California; several nieces and nephews. Mrs. Estabrook was born in Oakfield October3, 1886, daughter of the late Calvin and Emily Brown Shields. She was married to Weyman Estabrook on May 16, 1906, and has since livedin this town. She was interested and helpful in all social activities ofthe town, and never too busy to show enthusiasm for any school eventsthat were important to children. Probably this is why her home was oneof the most popular in the community, especially with young people, asher children's friends were always her friends too. Surviving, besides her husband, are three sons, Chalma of Centralia,Wash., Philip and Calvin of Dyer Brook; two daughters, Evelyn andMillicent of Portland, two grandchildren, Wayne Robert of Centralia,Wash., and Constance Darlene of Dryer Brook; and three brothers, Haroldand Charles of Oakfield, Philip of Bangor, and one sister, Mrs. LawrenceLeavitt of Merrill. Funeral services were held in the Baptist Church at Dyer Brook onWednesday afternoon, Rev. Perley M. Quigg officiating. Estabrook , formerly of Norton, Mass., died Saturday at Hahmenamn Hospital in Brighton, Mass. She was born June 20, 1887, at Dyer Brook, the daughter of the late Longley and Adeline Townsend Randall. She had been a resident of Norton, Mass., for eight years and of Chestnut Hill, Mass., for the past 10 years. She was a member of the Farmingham Baptist Church. Survivors include her daughter, Mrs. Henri A. Yelle of Norton, and a granddaughter, Henrietta Yelle, also of Norton. Mrs. Estabrook taught school in Houlton and Oakfield and was a retired teacher of Wreatham State School. A prayer service was conducted Monday from the Norton Memorial Funeral Home in Norton, Mass., with the Rev. John V. Magnani, St. Mary's Church in Brownsville officiating. Interment will be at a later date in the Dyer Brook Cemetery.2
