The ship on which James and his family sailed on from England, the Elizabeth, ran aground on a sand bar off the coast of Lot 11, near Cascumpec. The family of James Townsend consisted of his wife Elizabeth (Davis), children John (age 19), Lucy (age 18), James (age 10), Richard (age 13) and Mary (age 15).5
