The family religion was Presbyterian. James was a farmer, Robert & Percy farmer's sons. Grace and Lucy were school teachers. The family lived in the same home as James Sr. and Mary (Walker), next door to the original home of John Walker and Jane Weir, now occupied by David Walker and Deborah Lowther.
