The deceased was formerly Susan Ramsay and was born in Charlotte Town, Prince Edwards, Canada on April 29, 1847. She spent her early years of her life there and in 1865 she was married to Henry MacLean.

Shortly after they came to the United States and lived in California, Omaha, Nebraska & Ashland for a few years before coming to Ontonagon 60 years ago where she made her home since.

Mrs. MacLean was one of the organizers and a charter member of the Presbyterian Church, Ontonagon and had always been an ardent worker. She was a member of the Dorcas Society of the church and also a charter member of the Macabees.

Mrs. MacLean was always in good health and her death came as a shock in the community. She had been suffering from the flu for a few weeks and was taken to the Ontonagon hospital a week ago but her condition was not considered serious until just the day before her death Friday, April 23.

Surviving are 1 son Gordon - Ontonagon and 4 daughters, Mrs. M. Lee & Mrs. M. Warren of Everett, Washington, Mrs. C. Potter of Spring Lake, Michigan and Mrs. B. Stone, Chicago, 8 grandchildren & 3 great grandchildren. Mr. MacLean preceded her in death 25 years ago on April 23, 1912.

Pallbearers were Harry Vincent, Rudolph J. Watt, Austin Lowe, Walter O'Brien, Con Stripe & Norman Pennock.

The members of the Macabees Lodge attended the funeral in a body & had charge of the funeral at the cemetery.

Obituary: "Henry Allen McLean, 4 [sic] year old son of Mr. & Mrs. Gordon McLean, drowned in the Ontonagon River close to the county bridge.

In company with several youngsters, the little fellow ventured to the bridge and on playing at the approach to the bridge fell in the water.

The little ones instead of calling for help ran to call the mother who notified the men working in the vicinity.

After about 15 minutes in the water, the body was brought to the surface and efforts to revive were in vain.

The funeral held from the home with burial in the Riverside cemetery." [Ironwood Daily Globe, published 19 September 1927].1
