[Jennings.FTW] In the 1900 census for Houston, Houston County, MN, Dewitt is listed asClinton Dyer. This must have been necessitated to distinguish him fromhis father. He was born Apr 1874 in MN, father born in NY and mother inVermont. Can read/write/speak English, rents home and is a druggist. His wife, G___n, was born in Augbut the year and place are unknown. Daughter Daphna was born Jan 1897 inMN. The article in the Houston County History (1982) by Daphne (Dyer)Baumgartner says: 'He must have been a good student, because at the ageof 12 he received awards from his teached, Will Boyd. In May and June of1886, he received two awards of 100 merit points each. They are beautiful certificates which my daughter, Nancy[Baumgartner], has framed. Not only was he a good student, but he wasalso extremely musical. He played the guitar, harmonica and baritonehorn. In fact, he was playing in a band at a dance in the Town Hall the night I was born.' 'As a young man, he worked with his father as an apprentice druggist, later passing the State Boards to become a registered pharmacist. Myfather entered into partnership with Henry Forsyth and they continued inbusiness in the same building, (the building bearing the Dyer name on the corner of Grant and Cedar Streets[in Houston Village]) where the Bedore Drug Store now operates. Theenclosed picture is of their original store with the marble fountain andthe 1910 vintage ice cream tables and chairs. In the picture from left to right are: Henry Forsyth, my father,Clint, as he was known, and Dr. Onsgard, Sr.' 'My father was also civic minded, serving as Justice of the Peace inHouston for many years. My father married Glendon Marie Case January 6,1896 while she was a student at Mankato Normal School. They built theirhome at what is now 313 Spruce Street, the house in which I still live. My father died in August 1960 and mymother died in September 1962. They are both buried in the Money CreekCemetery.' Provided by: Hal W. Jennings <jennin@@ccwf.cc.utexas.edu>.
