| Note | Andrew Gunter owned and operated a wood boot named 'The Mayflower' that arried sawn lumber down the Saint John River. (The river current wasn't strong enough to carry the wood down to Saint John.) One year, black cholera hit the City of Saint John and the citizens ran short of many commodities including wood. Andrew saw the opportunity and loaded his boat, but couldn't find anyone willing to accompany him to the stricken city. Undaunted, he sailed off by himself. When he reached his destination, a man came to the wharf offering to purchase his entire load. After speedily dispensing of his wares, Andrew hurried back home, unfortunately without contracting the dreaded disease. His farm was at White's Cove on Grand Lake. |
