| Biographical Note | Thomas B. Hammond was the immigrant ancestor, having been born in Englandabout 1630 and died Oct. 20, 1678 in Newton, Mass. He probably immigrated to Mass. during the reign of King Charles I(1625-1649). 'Charles I hated Parliaments--' they are of the nature ofcats!'_ 'they ever grow cursed with age'. | Note | Eunice Ann Peet was a dressmaker in Osceola, PA. Sarah Tubbs Hammond, herdaughter, told John Jay and Nancy Dorian (Mehner) Ruhlman that she was a'rear saint'. She was an active member of the 1st Methodist Church ofOsceola, Tioga County, Pennsylvania. She was a seamstress and did a lotof needle work. Her oldest daughter, Addie, did much of the house work while Euniceworked out in order to make ends meet. In about 1893, the family moved from Camp Brook (outside Osceola) to townof Osceola, where Samuel worked as a cemetery caretaker. Their eldest son, William, was converted to Christ. He then used to goout and sell Christian books. A minister, Rev. Henry Clark was veryinfluential upon the Tubbs family; he was pastor of the 'Little Mission'in Osceola. Sarah Tubbs said that 'Henry Clark was one of the most Godlypeople that I ever knew'. William Tubbs finally died of tuberculosis in 1898; Arthur Tubbs diedyoung from 'Quick consumption' TB? The house in Osceola next to the cemetery was willed to Samuel Tubbs byhis sister. (was it Susannah Weldnick, Lovince Taylor or PermiliaTaylor?) When Samuel Tubbs first came to Osceola, he 'rolled loggs' down the riverto make some of the first houses. Sarah Tubbs told John Jay Ruhlman that she was named after Sarah Taylor.Her husband’s name was Benjamin. They had just one daughter named Nellie. ------- as told to John Jay Ruhlman, by Sarah T.
