She was a woman of some note in her day, and whose character may be judged from the fact that she rode on horseback, unattended, a distance of over one thousand miles to collect silver-ware and gold beads from her friends for the purpose of securing the enormous bail of $15,000 for the release of Matthew Lyon, of Rutland, Vermont, incarcerated for the violation of the notorious sedition laws.
