Meanwhile, Jim was hired by Westinghouse Airbrake, where he became ajourneyman coremaker. When the occasional layoffs came, he would go backto mining. He retired from Westinghouse in 1952. Jim was six feet tall, broad shouldered, strong and usually quiet. Hewas strict with his children, using a belt for corporal punishment - onboth boys and girls. He joined the Eagles Lodge in Jeannette, walkingthere every afternoon, even when he lived miles away. He liked to fishand was a good dancer, especially enjoying the polka.
