Benjamin Cole probably came to the Island of St. John with his mother and his stepfather, George Penman, who had been Paymaster of the British Forces under Lord Rollo when Rollo occupied the Island in 1758. George Penman and his family were living in the Port Hill area of Prince Edward Island prior to 1783.³
