Death*Ella May Clark died on 8 September 1945, at age 68, in Prince County Hospital, Summerside, Prince County, Prince Edward Island, Canada, 46.418658,-63.777325; Obituary: "In the closing hours of Sunday evening Mrs. Leonard Small of Sherbrooke passed away in the Prince County Hospital where she had been receiving treatment for a broken arm. The death was altogether unexpected, as she had been in her usual health for some time, apart from the suffering and inconvenience resultant from a broken limb, so the news came a great shock to her husband, now left alone, as no children had been born of this union. For some years Mrs. Small has been an asthma sufferer, which, at times, caused much inconvenience. She was a most estimable woman, deeply loved and respected by her neighbors to whom she was ever ready to lend a helping hand.

Born in Wilmot Valley 68 years ago, Ella May Clarke was the daughter of the later Mr. Charles & Mrs. (Lefurgey) Clarke. When quite a young girl she was married to Gordon Schurman, Sherbrooke, and to them was born a son, Ray now a resident of Boston who had planned to leave Boston on Wednesday to visit his mother. After her husband's death, Mrs. Schurman returned to her girlhood home from where sometime later she married Mr. Small and returned to Sherbrooke where she has since lived.

Surviving are, in addition to her husband and son, two brothers, Fred Clarke, on the homestead; William Clarke, in Summerside, and five sisters Mrs. Harry Walker, of Summerside; Mrs. James A. Harding, of Norboro; Mrs. Earnest Mountain in the United States; Mrs. Russell Badger and Mrs. William Woodside in Asquith, Manitoba. She is resting at the home of Mr. and Mrs. George Small, Summerside Road East, where the funeral will take place on Wednesday afternoon at 2 o'clock."1
Burial*She was buried in the Peoples Cemetery, Summerside, Prince County, Prince Edward Island, Canada.2

She had been in failing health for some time and had entered the hospital about five weeks ago. Death*Ethel Helen Clark died circa 2 November 1945, in Carleton, Prince County, Prince Edward Island, Canada.6,3
FuneralThe funeral was held on 4 November 1945 in the United Church, Summerside, Prince County, Prince Edward Island, Canada,
Funeral article in the Island Farmer: "The funeral service for the late Miss Ethel Helen Clark, of Summerside, was held from the Summerside United Church on Sunday afternoon and was conducted by her pastor, Rev. K.G. Sullivan. Many sorrowing friends were in attendance to pay a silent tribute to one so loved and respected by all. The music was directed by Miss Mary Geldart and included a solo: “The Beautiful Garden Of Prayer,” sung by Mr. George Bowness and two Hymns: “Peace Perfect Peace” and “Abide With Me.” The pallbearers were: Messers J. Clarke MacQuarrie, Hudson Lowther, Ellis Webster, T.J. Inman, Benjamin Sharpe and James Connell. Burial was in the family plot in the North Bedeque Cemetery.

Ethel Helen Clark was born 55 years ago in Central Bedeque the daughter of the late Mr. Ewen Clark and Mrs. Emily Inman Clark, who lived on the farm property now owned by Mr. Lloyd Webster. As a child she attended the Mount Stowe School, later going to Charlottetown where she was employed with Carter & Company, later to Cornwall where, in the general store of B. Webster, she was an efficient clerk. Thirty years ago she was engaged as saleslady in the Ready-to-Wear Department of R. T. Holman, Limited. As time passed her true worth was realized by the firm, which promoted her to the head sales lady of her department. Her ready smile, cheerful attention to details, unswerving conscientious loyalty to her employers, coupled with her desire to suit the customers every need, caused her to be a very popular and efficient clerk.

In her home life she left nothing to be desired and, in early life, assumed the care and responsibility of a semi-invalid sister; which trust she kept faithfully till the end. She was a strong, healthy, laughing girl until in late May she was suddenly stricken by a paralytic stroke from which she never recovered. Although never confined to her bed, it was evident to those who loved her best that she was gradually failing and that the strength she coveted so much would never return. Two months ago she went to Carleton to visit her cousins, Mr. & Mrs. Hudson Lowther, and it was while in that home that death came suddenly upon her.

She leaves to mourn, one sister Lulu, in Charlottetown; one half sister, Mrs. Phemie Purdy, in Summerside, and a very large circle of friends who sincerely mourn the passing of one so dearly loved. She was a member of the Summerside United Church; also a member of the Rebekah Lodge whose members attended her funeral in a body and formed a guard from the church to the waiting hearse. To all those bereaved sympathy is extended".3
(Interred) BurialShe was buried in the plot of Ewen Edmund Clark, in North Bedeque Cemetery, North Bedeque, Prince County, Prince Edward Island, Canada, 46.3615,-63.7259.
