Note*Miranda always had pansies which she dearly loved. They bought theirhouse in 1926 for $1200 in Badger. The house no longer stands. Theymoved to Oregon in 1919. She missed her friends back in Badger verymuch. Ross reported that one of her neighbors were the Caseys. Apparentlythe Caseys went for a buggy ride, got into an arguement with theresult that Mr. Casey got off the wagon and walked home. Miranda wasstaying the nite. When Mr. Casey got home he announced that he wasgoing to hang himself in the barn. To help him Mrs. Casey went totheir closet and handed him a shotgun telling him to make sure he dida good job. When Miranda woke up the next morning, all was quiet. Shewent out to the barn and eventually found them both sleeping in thehay loft. Another birthdate January 22, 1850.1

Biographical Note* The Caswell family were early pioneers in the area south of Wolseley, and many spoke warmly of the hospitality enjoyed in their home. They had four charming daughters whom the Ennis boys found most attractive. Alice became the bride of Gil Ennis. They are now (1980) retired and living in Glenavon. Harry Ennis married Inez Caswell, and Ella became the bride ofNelson Ennis who is now (1957) deceased. The fourth daughter, Myrtle,married Sydney Rogers, who is now (1980) deceased; and Myrtle resides inGrenfell (1980). Hugh, the eldest of the Caswell sons went to work in a mine in the winterand because of the war was forced to stay there for the duration. Theexperience did irreparable damage to his lungs. He farmed west ofSummerhill for some years and then retired to Grenfell in 1962. Hisdeath occurred in 1978. Bill operated a chicken farm in British Columbia, but his flock was wipedout with Newcastle Disease. He then enlisted in the army and became anelectrician. After the war he worked at Kitimat installing electricalequipment. He also helped to put the copper roofing on the BessboughHotel in Saskatoon. Percy, the youngest boy has (1980) retired from dairy farming in theWestfield District and now (1980) lives in Wolseley. His son Douglas,married to Lillian Fehler, operates the farm that in 1983 will be thescene of a Centennial Celebration. It will be one hundred years sincePioneer David William Caswell filed on his homestead. This account is found in the book, 'GRIT and GROWTH, THE STORY OFGRENFELL', by Annie I. Yule, 1970 edition on page 9, and page 12 in the1980 edition and privately published by the Grenfell Historical Committeeand printed by Brigdens and the covers by Universal Bindery, Saskatoon,Saskatchewan, Canada. PS. The Caswell farm, located on the west half of section 14-16-9 W2ndwas registered under the name of Prairie Park with the Federal Governmentin 1885. The home farm consisted of the homestead quarter a pre-emptiedquarter and quarter of 15-16-9 bought from the Canadian Pacific Railroadat $2.50 an acre. It was farmed by D. W. Caswell from 1883 to 1946 andthen taken over by the Casewell's son, Percy and Freda Caswell andfamily. A picture of the farmstead is found in David Wlliam andPauline's' scrapbook. They were always in livestock, first with Shorthorn cattle and then in1952 changed to dairy, with Jersey and shipped milk to Regina Co-op. Percy was interested in promotions of the breed and was director for 11years and serving two years as president of the Canadian NationalAssociation. In 1971the farm and Jersey cattle were taken over by Doug and Lil Caswelland their three boys, Tim, Clinton and Collin. A photo of the farmsteadcan be viewed in Doug and Lil's scrapbook. David William Caswell, son of Hugh and Sarah (Moffat) Casewell, marriedPauline Downey in 1898. David was born in 1861 and died in July, 1943.Pauline was born in 1875 and died February, 1923. Note*Ella Loetta Caswell was one of the original members of the SummerhillHomemakers Club who still (1980) belong to the Club and is apast-president which was first organized in 1934. Ella was one of theorganists for the old Kirkhill Church before it was destroyed by astubble fire in April 1951 that got out of control and completely wipedout the church and all its contents. Among the treasured thingsdestroyed was a very large and beautiful Bible given to the church byAndrew T. Fotheringham, on the fly leaf of which was a scroll done by J.T. M. Biographical Note* Hugh Evan 'Hughie' Caswell, the eldest of the Caswell sons went to workin a mine in the winter and because of the war was forced to stay therefor the duration. The experience did irreparable damage to his lungs. Hefarmed west of Summerhill for some years and then retired to Grenfell in1962. His death occurred in 1978. This account is stated in the book - 'GRIT and GROWTH, the STORY ofGRENFELL', by Annie I. Yule, 1970 edition page 10, 1980 edition page 12.

Note*ROGERS FAMILYREUNION On the 1st of August, 1992, twenty-three descendants of Thomas WettenhallRogers and Agnes Fotheringham gathered in the Wolseley United Church C.E. Hall to recall their ancestry and share anecdotes. T. W. Rogers was a pioneer south of Wolseley obtaining a homestead in themid 1890's which he named 'Haldon Farms'. He married Agnes Fotheringhamwho lived close by in 1896 and they had four children, Muriel Ennis, Lionel Rogers, Sydney Rogers and Gwendolyn Hie. Many Wolseley and District residents will recall Syd Rogers who ran agarage and service station in Wolseley for several years then farmednorth of Wolseley until he and his wife Myrtle moved to Victoria, BritishColumbia in 1952. Lionel was in partnership with Syd for a short timebefore he and his family moved to Winnipeg. The Family were sorry that Muriel and Gwen had passed away, Muriel inJanuary and Gwen in June of this year. Many amusing stories were recalled by the descendants of these pioneersand old photographs provided great interest. Those attending the reunion were as follows: From Muriel's family: Ethel(Ennis) Morden, Fort Qu' Appelle; Verne and Mabel Ennis of KakabekaFalls, Ontario; Joyce and Gerry Stephenson of Oakville, Ontario. From Lionel's' family: Monica Iliffe, Roger and Lance Holton; Jeff, Judy,Jordon and Janine Holton of Edmonton, Alberta: Lynda Johnston and Juliaof Winnipeg, Manitoba. From Sydney's family: his wife Myrtle Rogers, Grenfell; Cora, Tom andBill Mellor of Wolseley, Saskatchewan; and Cleve Mellor of Regina. From Gwen's family: Bernice Risk of Spruce Grove, Alberta and Elwyn Hieof Winnipeg, Manitoba. Special thanks to the U. N. W. W. ladies who provided a delicious lunchfor the family. On Sunday morning August 2nd, a tour was made of some of the old familyhomes ending with a lunch in Grenfell. Obituary was printed in The Grenfell Sun: Funeral service held for Myrtle EmmaRogers. Funeral service for the late Myrtle Emma Rogers, who died on the 26thof November, 1994, at Grenfell, was held in the chapel of the TubmanFuneral Home, Wolseley, on 30 November, 1994. The officiating clergy wasReverend Paul Dillman, of Grenfell United Church. Internment followed inWolseley Cemetery. The pallbearers were grandsons, Bill, Dale and Warren Mellor andgrandson-in-law: Gerry (Barb) Friess. Myrtle Emma Rogers was born at Wolseley, on December 24, 1906, seconddaughter of David and Pauline Caswell (nee Downey). She married Sydney Rogers on July 31, 1925 at Haldon Farm where theyfarmed until moving to Wolseley in 1941 and then on to live in VancouverIsland, B.C., until Myrtle returned to live in Grenfell until her death. She is survived by her children: Cora (Tom) Mellor, Wolseley; Betty(Ken) Bonnington, Vancouver; one son: Tom (Caroline) Rogers, Vancouver;eight grandchildren and seven great grandchildren; a brother: PercyCaswell, Wolseley; three sisters; Ella Ennis and Inez Ennis both ofGrenfell; Alice Ennis of Glenavon; numerous nieces and nephews. She waspredeceased by her husband, Sydney in 1970, a daughter Florence in 1936,her parents and two brothers: Bill in 1972 and Hughie in 1978. Myrtle will sadly missed by her children and grandchildren. The funeral arrangements were entrusted to the Tubman Funeral Home. See the book 'Grit and Growth, the Story of Grenfell, by Annie I. Biographical Note* Percy Milton Casewell, the youngest boy has (1980) retired from dairy farming in the Westfield District and now (1980) lives in Wolseley. Hisson Douglas, married to Lillian Feher, operates the farm that in 1983 will be the scene of a Centennial Celebration. It will be one hundred years since Pioneer David William Caswell filed on his homestead. PS. The farm was taken over by Percy and Freda and family. They were always interested in livestock, first with Shorthorn cattleand then in 1952 changed to dairy, with Jersey and shipped milk to ReginaCo-op. Percy was interested in promotions of the breed and was director for 11years and serving two years as president of the Canadian National JerseyAssociation. After the war he worked at Kitimat,British Columbia, installing electrical equipment. He also helped to putthe copper roofing on the Bessbough Hotel in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan,Canada.
