The young ladies, accompanied by Miss Cooper of the local army, were spending the afternoon by the river, and the sisters were bathing. Miss Daisy, the younger, was an expert swimmer. The two had been in the water about five minutes and were splashing about with arms clasped when they slipped over the channel bank into deep water and disappeared. Miss Cooper called for help, and Robert Harrison, a chain maker from the Standard Chain works nearby, and others, responded, but the bodies had completely disappeared. Miss Bertha Brace arrived in Sarnia this spring. Her sister came from Boston two weeks ago. Much sympathy is felt for the bereaved parents and relatives in this province."4 |
