He went to seaat an early age and followed that way of life intermittently for morethan twenty years. In 1860 he made a sojourn up the Saint John Riverwhere he met Miss Harriet Shaw of Windsor, whom he married two yearslater. They lived in Pleasant Valley, Yarmouth County, Nova Scotia, whenthey were first married, but returned about 1869 and settled in theWindsor area of Carleton County. Benjamin and Harriet (Shaw) Tedford had eleven children, ten sons and onedaughter.
