Note* | 'Neepawa Press, Neepawa, Manitoba Tuesday, December 3, 1901 Ennis-Smith A very pretty event took place at the residence of Mr. Frank Ennis on theevening of November 27 at 5 o'clock p.m. when two of Neepawa's mostpopular young people were united in the holy bonds of wedlock,contracting parties being Miss Lizzie Ennis to Mr. T. J. Smith. Thebride was assisted by her niece, Miss Maggie Hamilton, Oberon, while Mr.W.S. Smith, brother of the groom fulfilled the duties of groomsman. Theceremony was performed by the Rev. A.W. Woods, incumbent of St. Jameschurch, Neepawa. The bride looked charming in a gown of navy blue ladiescloth with trimmings of cream duchess satin and rhinestones. Thebridesmaid also looked charming in a gown of navy blue serge withtrimmings of cream satin and applique. After receiving the heartycongratulations of those present, the guests adjourned to the dining roomwhere they did ample justice to the good things provided. In the eveninga reception was held at the residence of the groom's father, Mr. Geo.Smith Sr., where over 100 invited guests tripped the light fantasticuntil early morn. The popularity of the young couple was fully testifiedby the numerous and valuable presents received. On November 27, 1901 Lizzie married Frederick James Smith, who wasfarming in the Neepawa District. In 1904, they moved to the KelwoodDistrict, Manitoba to farm. On March 13, 1909 after the death of hersister,Ella, Lizzie received the care and trust of Ella's eight day olddaughter, Gladys Ellady McLaughlin. Lizzie cared for Gladys until Glady'sfather remarried. Fred died in 1933 in Dauphin, Manitoba. |
