Obituary, Maple Leaf Magazine: "Died in Sidney, N.Y., Mrs. J.S. Walker (nee Annie Rogers), Freetown, PEI, aged 56 years, leaving a husband, son, two daughters, three sisters and two brothers".
Obituary: Mrs. Annie Sophia (Rogers) Walker, wife of John S. Walker, passed away at the Coopertown, N.Y. Hospital Sunday evening, Dec. 15, 1935, after an illness of some weeks of heart trouble with complications. Mrs. Walker had been in failing health for some time and two weeks ago she was taken to the Coopertown Hospital for treatment.

"Her daughter, Miss Florence Walker, registered nurse employed at Cornell Medical Centre, New York City, came home and cared for her mother during her illness, both at home and at the hospital. Her entire family was at the bedside at the time of her death. Her son, John D. Walker, senior at Ohio State University, Columbus, Ohio, came home when her condition became serious.

"Mrs. Walker was born January 24, 1879 at Freetown, Prince Edward Island, Canada, the daughter of David and Louisa (Wright) Rogers. She was united in marriage to J. S. Walker, also of Canada, on June 15, 1904. The family came to Sidney to reside in 1921.
Mrs. Walker had been a member of the Methodist Episcopal Church since early girlhood, and during her residence here has been a faithful and valued member of the local Methodist Church. She was active in all of the departments of the church and gave liberally of her time and talents to the work of the church, and ably served in many official capacities. For several years she was president of the local auxiliary of the Woman's Foreign Missionary Society, which prospered under her direction, and at the time of her death she was vice-president of the Oneonta District Woman's Foreign Missionary organization. By her passing, the church loses a loyal and devoted member, whose place it will be difficult to fill.

"She is survived by her husband; two daughters, Mrs. Benjamin Ellis and Miss Florence Walker, and one son, John D. Walker, all of Sidney, and one granddaughter. She is also survived by three sisters: Mrs. L. U. Fowler and Mrs. H. W. Burch of Calgary, Alberta, Canada; Mrs. S. R. Cairns of Freetown, Prince Edward Island; and two brothers: Picton Rogers of Rossland, British Columbia, and Henry L. Rogers of New Westminster, British Columbia.
Largely attended funeral services were held in the Sidney Methodist Church, Rev. F. W. Connell, her pastor, assisted by Rev. H. W. Thomas of Bingampton, officiating. The interment was in Prospect Hill Cemetery."1,4,17

Death*David Rogers died on 17 May 1908, at age 76, in South Freetown, Prince County, Prince Edward Island, Canada; Obituary: "We regret to announce the death of David Rogers of Freetown, which occurred on Sunday night last. Mr. Rogers was one of the most prominent men in Prince County and had reached the allotted years, and the evening of his life was being spent in quiet. He had not been well for some months, so that the news of his death was not unexpected. He was born in Carmarthen, South Wales, December 28th, 1831, and came with his father, Jonah Rogers, and other members of the family to this Province in 1839 and settled in Bedeque. With his father David learned the trade of a blacksmith and worked on the farm in the day and the shop at night. After becoming proficient he went to the United States, but was there only a short time when his father’s illness and death brought him home to take charge of the shop and farm – he being the eldest son.

In a few years, the younger brothers having grown up, David moved to Freetown, buying a farm previously owned by Fred Picketts. There, after marrying, he opened a blacksmith shop. Those were the days of hard work, clearing land and working in the shop late and early. He was soon in comfortable circumstances. The farm and mill property of the late Geo. Wright, known as the Dunk River Mills, was in the market in 1869. Mr. Rogers bought the fine property where he has since resided, working the grist, saw and carding mills, as well as the large farm of two hundred and sixty acres. Some two years ago he sold the mills and part of the farm, as the health of his two sons compelled them to seek a warmer climate.

Mr. Rogers was an active and faithful member of the Methodist Church in which he served as local minister, steward, trustee and member of the Quarterly Board. In politics he was an Independent, preferring to vote for the best man rather than party. During his whole life he was a consistent temperance worker and occupied the position of Grand Worthy Patriarch of the Grand Division of the Sons of Temperance in 1883-84. He was thrice married – first to Mary Wright of Bedeque, second to Louisa Wright of Searltown, and third to Martha Wright of Charlottetown, who survives him. Six children are living: Picton in British Columbia; Henry in Calgary; Mrs. H. W. Birch, Alberta; Mrs. L. U. Fowler, Bedeque; Mrs. S. R. Cairns and Mrs. J. S. Walker, Freetown. Benj. Rogers, Sr., Charlottetown, and Joseph Rogers of Bedeque are brothers; Mrs. Henry Farquharson, Southport; and Mrs. Thomas Frizzle, Summerside, are sisters of the deceased."8,3
Burial*He was buried in Methodist/United Church Cemetery, Freetown, Prince County, Prince Edward Island, Canada, 46.37350,-63.62341.
